Totem is a vertical sculpture composed entirely of steel horseshoes welded to a central post, measuring eight feet tall and half a foot wide on each side. Rising in a tightly stacked spiral, the horseshoes form a narrow column that balances repetition with rugged elegance. Their orientation and spacing create a rhythmic visual texture that draws the viewer’s gaze upward.
The piece culminates in a single polished horseshoe at the top, contrasting with the weathered patina of the lower elements. This juxtaposition suggests a movement from the worn and utilitarian toward something elevated—perhaps symbolic of aspiration, endurance, or transformation.
By repurposing humble materials associated with labor and luck, Totem quietly explores themes of ritual, resilience, and structure. It stands as both an abstract monument and a meditation on the passage of time embedded in form.
